Salman Khan starts another trend in Bollywood

Aamir Khan is going the Salman Khan way for his next film. Just like YRF and Salman Khan launched a digital first look for Ek Tha Tiger, Aamir is planning to launch the first look of his upcoming Reema Katgis film digitally.

News is that Aamir Khan is thoroughly impressed with the concept and being the perfectionist that he is, Aamir wants to be involved with the creative team at every step. News of the Reema Katgi project with Aamir and Kareena Kapoor in the lead continues to trickle in. The film still does not have a title and there were some sneak peeks of Aamir Khan dressed as a cop from the movie.

Bollywood badshahs – 40 plus and reigning

Bollywood can’t get enough of its good old, 40-plus actors – Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan and Ajay Devgn. They ruled the roost in the 1990s and after two decades, they are still calling the shots as they get the best films, meaty roles, highest remuneration and maximum media coverage.

Of course, there are Abhishek Bachchan and Hrithik Roshan and younger heroes like Shahid Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor, Imran Khan, Abhay Deol and Emraan Hashmi who are a rage, but old continues to be gold at the box office.

Amitabh Bachchan, who is way beyond the 40-mark, has spent over four decades in the Hindi film industry – but the 68-year-old is nowhere close to fading. He is still playing central characters. After the recent “Bbuddah…Hoga Tera Baap”, he is set to treat fans with “Aarakshan”, as well as the fifth season of the reality show “Kaun Banega Crorepati”. And he isn’t hanging up his boots as long as his body works.

Other than Big B, Anil Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, Salman, Shah Rukh, Aamir, Ajay, Saif Ali Khan and Akshay Kumar top the filmmakers’ wishlist, as long as the script and budget are in tune with the stars.

These actors have proved their charm over and over again.

Salman, 45, proved he is still saleable with “Dabangg”, the biggest blockbuster of last year. He carried forward his victorious streak in 2011 with the masala film “Ready” and his debut co-production “Chillar Party”, which garnered critical acclaim.

The star is facing a receding hair line, but it is not coming in the way of his success. He is now gearing up to entertain fans with “Bodyguard”, which is also expected to mint gold at the box office.

B-town ‘badshah’ Shah Rukh’s 2010 film “My Name Is Khan”, a love story set against the backdrop of racial discrimination post-9/11, grossed an estimated $18 million at the worldwide box office in its opening weekend.

Now the 45-year-old, who is coping with a back problem and even has a few wrinkles, is coming up with the two most awaited projects of the year – his mega-budget home production “Ra.One” and Farhan Akhtar’s “Don 2: The Chase Continues”.

At 46, Aamir is one of the most formidable stars. As an actor, director or producer, his films have set new standards in the Hindi film industry. Over the years, he has lost his cute college-boy looks but is still a craze.

Be it “3 Idiots” in 2009, the satirical “Peepli Live” in 2010 or the recently released, cult, madcap comedy “Delhi Belly”, Aamir’s USP of moulding himself and his work to suit the audience’s taste has made him the flavour of all seasons for Indian movie buffs.

From romancing to tickling the funny bone, these actors are doing all kinds of roles.

For instance, 42-year-old Ajay, who stands out for his intense acting, scored well at the box office with the underworld drama “Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai” and the comedy “Golmaal 3″ last year. This year his latest, “Singham”, a hardcore action movie, is already roaring loud at the box office.

Saif, who hit the 40-mark last year, is set to get experimental now. The ‘Chhote Nawab’ will be seen in the serious role of a Dalit school teacher in “Aarakshan’. Later, he is expected to set the screen on fire with his home production “Agent Vinod”, in which he is said to have performed some mindblowing stunts.

For the daredevil Akshay, the year 2010 was a bit of a damp squib with just one hit – Sajid Khan’s “Housefull” – despite several other films like “Khatta Meetha”, “Action Replayy” and “Tees Maar Khan”.

The depression in his career graph continued this year with not-so-successful films like “Patiala House” and “Thank You”, but that hasn’t affected Akshay’s stardom.

Hopefully, he will jump back into action with “Desi Boyz”, “Joker” and “Housefull 2″ in the near future. The 44-year-old also has the Indo-Canadian film “Breakaway” lined up for release.

There are also 51-year-olds Anil and Sanjay who manage to enthuse audiences, no matter what. Sanjay entertained with “Double Dhamaal” recently, while Anil is making headway to international shores with a prestigious project like “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol”.

Salman to co-produce sequels to Chillar Party

They say when Salman Khan decides to do some thing, he puts his heart and soul into it. Well the same is the case with the film Chillar Party. The film, which released earlier this month, opened to rave reviews from critics and audiences alike. Bollywood Hungama has now learnt that Salman is keen on producing not one but two sequels to the film.

Speaking to Vikas Bahl, we are told, "Chillar Party opened so well that we have decided to make 2 sequels to the film. Like before, Salman will be co-producing the film along with UTV. But right now we have just finished writing the script and are currently working on the screenplay for both."

Further on the sequels, Vikas adds, "Chillar Party has since become a brand name so the sequels will be one where the entire gang decides to take Fatka to school along with all the other slum kids, while the second portrays the gang that has become famous the nation over and has now been selected as the think tank for the Olympic squad."

As for the cast of each of the films, Vikas says, "As you know children grow very rapidly, though I would like to keep the same cast, we will need to see whether they have outgrown their roles by the time we are done writing the screenplay."

Ready Wallpapers, Ready Wallpapers, Ready Desktop Pictures and Ready Movie Pictures

Ready in good demand abroad

So what if Asin Thottumkal, the leading lady of “Ready”, was missing from the Dubai premiere of the movie? Bollywood star Salman Khan, who gave one of the biggest hits of recent times with “Dabangg”, drew in a massive crowd at the event, says director Anees Bazmee.

“Ready” is Salman’s first release after the success of “Dabangg”, and is quite awaited thanks to its peppy numbers “Character dheela hai” and “Dhinka chika”. No wonder the Dubai audience gave him a warm welcome there.

The curiosity and excitement among the crowd also gave producers Bhushan Kumar and Kishan Kumar, as well as Bazmee a new high.

“It was an experience not to be forgotten easily. There were as many people standing outside the four screenings we had in Dubai as there were inside the theatres,” Bazmee said on returning to Mumbai Thursday morning.

As reported earlier Asin couldn’t accompany the “Ready” team to Dubai due to her passport hassles.

However, Bazmee says the team felt her absence at the event.

“It is strange that easily-recognisable celebrities too have to submit their passports for visas. One can understand the less visible members of the unit being asked to do so. But the heroine of a film? Anyway, we missed Asin at Dubai,” he said.

Ready tops in Box Office

Actor Salman Khan has done it again. After breaking the collections records of 3 Idiots with regards to first few days with his Dabangg, his film ‘Ready’ has now emerged as the second highest opening film of Bollywood for a weekend.

‘Ready’ till now has netted an amount of Rs. 40.65 cr with in three days. The collection figures for the weekend are; Friday-13.15 cr, Saturday-12.25 cr and Sunday-15.25 cr.

So as of now Top 5 opening weekends belong to Dabangg which netted 48.5 cr followed by Ready at 40.65 cr, 3 Idiots at 40 cr, Tees Maar Khan at 38 cr and Golmaal Returns-36 cr respectively.

And With the way ‘Ready’ is going on Monday; sure expect it to be the second highest grossing film for the first week.

Salman Khan is special for me says Asin

Asin is waiting for her June 3rd release Ready movie, starring Salman Khan in the lead. This film is crucial for the actress as Ready’s result would decide the future of her in Bollywood. This is a remake of Telugu hit with same name.

Salman Khan has been the mentor for Asin in B town, who signed her in London Dreams and Ready. She has a very good rapport with him and says that she has never come across anyone like Salman in tinsel town. “Cinema industry is known for double standards and Salman doesn’t have any,” Asin told.

“He never speaks one thing on the face and other on your back,” said Asin about Salman Khan. He is something special and I would love to act with him again and again, she added. Asin also condemned the rumors linking with Salman and told they share a good professional relationship and just that!

Katrina Kaif desperately needs Salman Khan for her career

Salman Khan is on Katrina Kaif’s priority list. Wait, don’t come to any conclusions. No, this is nothing to do about their affair and breakup. Katrina is seriously chasing Salman only to bag a movie opposite him.

If we get into the details Salman Khan is looking for a suitable pair in Yash Raj Films production. Katrina Kaif came to know about this and started to woo him as she badly needs a biggie in her kitty now. After the debacle of Tees Maar Khan, Kat has not a single big budget film on her hands.

Katrina Kaif has rejected Salman Khan’s Bodyguard remake citing unexplainable reasons and now she is regretting that. Will Salman consider Katrina’s request and give her an opportunity to star opposite him again. Only time will tell.

Salman khan thrashes ready reviews and critics

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan is right now running through the form of his life. His recent movie Ready is doing wonders at the box office despite bad reviews. Most of the critics have written off this film and stated that it is one of the worst films ever made. Director Anees Baazmee’s work was shred into pieces by many.

However, Ready box office performance is quite opposite to critics view. The film has opened so well at the box office that it took the second place in the all time best openers list. Ready is placed in between Dabangg and 3 Idiots in the highest opening collections.

Salman Khan is happy by the way Ready is being received, but is very unhappy with the reviews and critics. He said that all those who love the film can’t be stupid. “Do the 0 and 1 ratings are justified with the box office result?” Salman posed a straight question to all those who had written off this film.

Ready Review – Ready Movie Review – Ready Rating, Hindi Movie Review

Salman Khan is back after rocking the box office with his previous film Dabangg. This time he is Ready with a family entertainer which falls under the category of comedy/drama/family. Ready lacks Salman Khan’s dose of action and people who go to theatres should be prepared for it. We review Ready for you…

Story:

Pooja aka Sanjana Singh (Asin) runs away from her evil uncles who want to steal all her properties by marrying her to either of their songs. She confronts with Prem (Salman Khan) and eventually they love each other. But Sanjana’s uncles find her and take her away. Prem uses his brains and starts the bluff game. How he marries his girl by making her uncles realize their mistakes is the rest of the story.

Analysis:

Ready is a remake of Telugu hit movie with the same name. Ram, a rising hero played the lead role in it. Salman Khan, who is a superstar, chose to do this role after setting box office on fire with Danbangg. It would be hard for Salman’s mass fans to see him in a sober role which hardly needs to flex his muscles. Especially it will be even harder to accept him in such an ineffective role after that iconic Chulbul Pandey act.

Adding to this director Anees Bazmee’s lackluster screenplay in the first hour made Ready a boring fare. Salman tried his best to infuse life into it but only did in very few instances. Bazmee changed the first half scenes from the original to make it suit to the tastes of Bollywood audience. Although the original’s first hour wasn’t up to the mark it was engaging and in contrast to the second hour which helped big time.

Anees Bazmee tried to make Ready a fulltime entertainer by having too much family drama and so called entertainment in the first half. However, he missed a golden chance of giving the much needed action and mass masala to Salman fans by changing the scenes from the original. Bazmee should have stuck to the original and might have bettered it as he has a superstar at his service. Instead he tried to stick to his image of churning mindless comic capers and that didn’t help for Ready’s course. Most importantly he ruined the character of Paresh Rawal’s which was played by Brahmanandam in the original. For Ready in Telugu this character is the heart and soul and Bazmee failed to understand it.

He retained most of the scenes from the original in second half and few of those worked too. Anees Bazmee tries too hard to make audiences laugh by including vulgar jokes which is absolutely not needed. He could have hired a good translator and translated all the good and neat jokes from the original. Ready, on a whole works only in parts. All the changes that the director brought in prove the fact that he is out of form at the moment.

Dhinka Chika and Character Dheela songs are the saving grace along with Salman’s stunning screen presence. Few jokes here and there worked but Ready is just below the average mark as a wholesome film.

Performances:

Salman Khan is the reason for all the hype surrounding this film and he would be the only savior to make this film a hit or whatever it manages to collect. He did his part so well and used his sense of humor to light up the scenes. His dances in Dhinka Chika are simply superb. Asin looked pale in many scenes and okay in few. An actress of Kareena’s caliber is needed to play this role. Paresh Rawal is good but the director didn’t use his talent properly. There is a horde of artists and everyone did their bit.

Tehnicalities:

Devi Sri Prasad rocked his Bollywood debut with his Dhinka Chika the new chant of B town. Pritam is the main music composer and he is good with his Character Dheela number. Background score is too loud. Dialogues by Farhad are just okay. Sunil Patel’s cinematography is up to the mark. Most of the film is done indoors and even then the cinematographer managed to pull it off with colorful cinematography. Art department played their part in doing so.

Anees Bazmee’s humor sparkled here and there. Putting the interval card as ‘Pee Break’ which later changes to ‘Tee break’ is good. Also the timing in the scene in climax chase sequence where a bike runs over a goon’s leg is hilarious. Bazmee should have stayed loyal to the original script for better results.

Plus Points:

- Salman Khan
- Comedy in the second hour
- Dhinka Chika, Character Dheela songs

Minus points:

- Boring first hour
- No mass masala elements
- Action part is too weak for a Salman film

Final Word: Ready – Not a tailor made film for Salman. But he tries his best to ‘fit’ in.

Box office predictions:

Ready should open to mind boggling collections all over. Thanks to Salman and the Dabangg factor. Ready will have a great first weekend and from then on it has to survive on the family audience. Ready is certainly not blockbuster Dabangg to Salman and not a disastrous Thank You from Anees Bazmee either.

Salman Khan shoots action scenes on tuk-tuk

Shah Rukh Khan shot action scenes on a desi cycle-rickshaw, Salman Khan decided to be different and performed his stunts on tuk-tuk, the Thai auto-rickshaw, in the narrow streets of Pattaya for Anees Bazmee’s “Ready”.
“It was Bhai’s (Salman’s) idea to shoot with tuk-tuks which are very fast and powerful. He wanted to shoot an action sequence nobody has done before,” Bhushan Kumar of T-Series said in a press statement.
“People have shot romantic songs or scenes perhaps, but such a high-voltage action sequence will be seen for the first time in ‘Ready’. People will enjoy this unique Thai action,” he added.

Shahrukh Khan Praises Salman Khan’s Ready

Bollywood Actor Shahrukh Khan was all praise for Salman Khan’s upcoming film Ready and believes it’s going to be a hit

Bollywood’s number one Khan, Shahrukh Khan believes that arch rival Salman Khan’s Ready is going to be a hit. The actor is reported to have told a leading tabloid that he feels optimistic about the movie and that it is going to be a huge success. Khan, however, hasn’t confirmed whether he, personally, will go to see the movie, but guarantees that his two kids would go and watch the film.

Ready has been one of the most awaited films of the year and promises full on entertainment. This comedy flick will see Salman Khan do what he does best – fight, romance a girl and do his awkward dance, not to forget, make his audience laugh.

Ready box office report

Salman Khan and Bollywood heartthrob Asin’s latest flick Ready has taken the cinemagoers by storm. The film was underrated before it hit the cinema, but within a couple of days after its launch, it transpires that the bad boy of Indian cinema Salman seems to have given another super hit.

He is the most trusted actor of the Bollywood, whose films do well almost always. It happens very rarely that a producer loses his money by casting Sallu in his venture. The indefatigable Khan always helps his producers make lots of money.

This is the reason that when every actor including Akshay Kumar have reportedly slashed their rates for signing a film, Sallu bhai has increased his rates. And producers instead of deserting him due to high rates, are flocking to his residence to sign him for his munh mangi qeemat.

Ready’s first day performance was extremely satisfying. It collected more than Rs 140 million, thus surpassing the record of Amir Khan’s super duper successful film 3 Idiots. Mind you, Salman Khan’s Dabangg holds the record for the highest first week grossing.

Bhushan Kumar, the producer is optimistic that despite the usual practice of panning Salman Khan’s film as ordinary, Ready is on its way to be the biggest hit of the year.

In several places in the country, more especially in North India many show of the film begin at 5 am in the morning when it is still dark. Shah Rukh Khan, another Bollywood star and the bête noir of Sallu may rue the fact that he may never be able to get as good or half as good a response that Sallu gets from his fans.

The best thing about Ready is the fact that the response is getting better and better after every passing day. If the collection of the day one was 13.15 crore rupees, it went up substantially the next day and it has not declined even a bit

Salman Khans Ready takes a rip-roaring start at the box office

The Salman Khan magic is working again. His latest film Ready, despite being panned by majority of critics, is drawing footfalls to theatres. The Ready box office figures already have the distributors heaving a sigh of relief and eyeing a fat profit as well.

Directed by Anees Bazmee, the comedy film starring Asin and Salman Khan opened to a rip-roaring start on Friday. It saw the occupancy of 60 to 80 percent at both multiplexes and single screen theatres.

Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif together in Kabir Khan’s film

Salman Khan is being considered for a Yash Raj film to be directed by Kabir Khan, with Katrina Kaif paired opposite him. There is however one thing left to work out -- the contract. Seems Salman isn’t happy with YRF sharing Shahrukh’s contract with him and is only interested in looking at Aamir Khan’s contract.

YRF recently signed Aamir Khan to play the villain in Dhoom 3. Speculation is that the perfectionist Aamir was signed at a sky-high price, as an exception. In contrast Shahrukh Khan who is a regular with the Chopras, like many other actors may have been willing to accept a lower package to work with the Yash Raj banner.

For Salman, who usually linkes to work within the friends and family circle, this will be first time he will sign a film with the Yash Raj banner and considering the success of Dabangg, the buzz around Ready, he sees no reason to compromise on the remuneration.

Khan has thus established himself as one of the most prominent leading actors of Hindi cinema.

(Biography)

Career

Late 1980s

Bollywood Superstar Salman Khan made his acting debut in the 1988 film Biwi Ho To Aisi where he played a supporting role. His first leading role in a Bollywood movie was in Sooraj R. Barjatya's romance Maine Pyar Kiya (1989). The film went on to become one of India's highest grossing films. It also won him a Filmfare Best Male Debut Award, and a nomination for Filmfare Best Actor Award. Maine Pyar Kiya was the biggest hit of 1989 in India, one of the most successful Bollywood movies of the 1980s, and it established Salman Khan's status in the industry.

1990s

1990 saw only one film release starring Khan, Baaghi, co-starring alongside southern actress Nagma. The film was a box office success, and was followed by another successful year in 1991 when he starred in three hit films, Patthar Ke Phool, Sanam Bewafa and Saajan. Despite these tremendous early box office successes, all of his 1992-1993 releases resulted in box office failures.

Khan clawed back his previous success in 1994 with his second collaboration with director Sooraj Barjatya in the romance Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, co-starring Madhuri Dixit. This film was the biggest hit of that year, and turned out to be one of Bollywood's highest grossing films ever, becoming the fourth highest earner of all time. Apart from being a commercial success, the film was widely acclaimed and Khan was praised for his performance, earning his second nomination for Best Actor at the Filmfare. Three more films released that year featured Khan, none of which making a significant impact on the box-office as was the case with the previously mentioned title. He did however win praise for his performance in Andaz Apna Apna, alongside co-star Aamir Khan, which has gained a cult status since its release. In 1995 he cemented his success with Rakesh Roshan's blockbuster Karan Arjun, co-starring alongside Shahrukh Khan. The film was the second biggest hit of the year, and his role of Karan once again put his name among the nominees for the Best Actor award at the Filmfare, which was eventually won by his Karan Arjun co-star Shahrukh Khan.

1996 was followed by two successes. The first one being Sanjay Leela Bhansali's directional debut Khamoshi: The Musical, co-starring Manisha Koirala, Nana Patekar and Seema Biswas. Though a box office failure, the film was critically acclaimed. He next starred alongside Sunny Deol and Karisma Kapoor in Raj Kanwar's action hit Jeet.

He had only two releases in 1997: Judwaa and Auzaar. The former was a comedy directed by David Dhawan co-starring Karisma Kapoor, where he played a dual role of twins separated at birth. The film was a box office hit. The latter, co-starring Shilpa Shetty failed to do well, but developed a cult following after its video release.

Khan worked in five different films in 1998, his first release being the comedy Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya opposite Kajol, one of the biggest commercial successes of that year. This was followed by the moderately successful drama Jab Pyaar Kisise Hota Hai. Khan played a young man who has to take a child who claims to be his son, under his custody. Khan's performance in the film earned him several positive notices and favourable reviews from critics. He rounded of the year with Karan Johar's directorial debut, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Co-starring alongside Shahrukh Khan and Kajol, he had only an extended cameo playing the role of Aman. However, it eventually turned out beneficial to him, as his performance earned him his second Filmfare Award under the Best Supporting Actor category.

In 1999, Khan starred in three hit films: Hum Saath-Saath Hain: We Stand United, which reunited him with Sooraj Barjatya for the third time; Biwi No.1, which became the top grossing film that year; and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, which was a major critical success, and earned him another Best Actor nomination at the Filmfare.

2000s

In 2000, Khan acted in six films, most of which failed critically and commercially, except for the two moderately successful films, Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega and Chori Chori Chupke Chupke, both of which co-starred Rani Mukerji and Preity Zinta. His performance in Chori Chori Chupke Chupke, the release of which was delayed until 2001, was received well. The film was one of the first Bollywood movies to handle the issue of surrogate childbirth; Khan played the role of a rich industrialist, who hires a surrogate mother after his wife becomes infertile. Critics noted his turn towards a more serious role, which reportedly had more substance in comparison to his previous roles. In 2002 he starred in the delayed release Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam which was semi-hit at the box office.

Khan's following releases failed at the box office until he made a comeback in 2003 with Tere Naam. The film was a major earner and his performance was praised by critics, with film critic Taran Adarsh noting, "Salman Khan is exceptional in a role that fits him to the T. He breathes fire in sequences that demand uneasiness. But beneath the tough exterior lies a vulnerable person and this facet in particular comes to the fore in the latter reels. His emotional outbursts are splendid.

His work was noticed internationally in the movie Phir Milenge (2004) where he played the role of an AIDS patient. It was well appreciated by the World Health Organization (WHO) for presenting the problems of AIDS patient in today's world. He subsequently continued his success at the box office, with comedies like Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004) and No Entry (2005).

2006 was an unsuccessful year for him when Jaan-E-Mann and Baabul both failed to do well at the box office.

Khan started 2007 with the ensemble film Salaam E Ishq which failed to do well at the box office. His next release Partner did very well at the box office, receiving a blockbuster verdict. He next appeared in his first Hollywood movie, Marigold: An Adventure in India opposite American actress Ali Larter. Telling the love story of an Indian man and an American woman, the film was a major failure, both commercially and critically.

Khan starred in three films throughout 2008, all of which underperformed, though his second film of the year, Heroes, met with praise from critics.

Salman hosted the second season of 10 Ka Dum in year 2009 which turned out to be even more successful than his first season as the host of the game show in year 2008. The show got very high TRPs for Sony Entertainment Television (India) and according to reports, the show helped Sony TV regain its third position in the Indian television ratings.

Khan's first film of 2009, Wanted directed by choreographer turned director Prabhu Deva was declared a smash hit in its first weekend of release itself. The action film turned out to be a huge success. The movie got more recognition for its slick action sequences performed by the actor himself.

In 2004, he was voted 7th best-looking man in the World and the best looking man in India by People magazine, U.S. Khan has been involved in several charities during his career.

Despite being romantically linked with several actresses, and having relationships with ex-girlfriends Aishwarya Rai, Somy Ali and Sangeeta Bijlani, Khan is frequently featured by Indian media as Bollywood's most eligible bachelor. He has been dating model-turned-actress Katrina Kaif since 2003.

On 11 October 2007, Khan accepted an offer from Madame Tussauds wax museum in London to have a wax replica made of himself. His life-size wax figure was finally installed there on 15 January 2008, making him the fourth Indian actor to have been replicated as a wax statue in the museum.

(Controversies)

Legal troubles

On 28 September 2002, Salman was arrested for rash and negligent driving. His car had collided into a bakery in Mumbai; one person who was sleeping on the pavement outside the bakery died and three others were injured in the mishap. Charges of culpable homicide were laid against him, but later dropped, and he was found not guilty. However, he will still have to stand trial for a series of lesser charges pertaining to the incident.

On 17 February 2006, Khan was sentenced to one year in prison for hunting an endangered species, the Chinkara. The sentence was stayed by a higher court during appeal. On 10 April 2006, Salman was handed a five year jail term for hunting the endangered Chinkara. He was remanded to Jodhpur jail, and remained there until 13 April when he was granted bail. On 24 August 2007, the Jodhpur sessions court, upheld the 5 year jail term for Khan in the Chinkara poaching case by turning down his appeal against the 2006 judgement. At the time of the hearing, he was busy with a shooting elsewhere, while his sister attended the proceedings. Day after, he was placed under police arrest in Jodhpur after a Rajasthan court upheld a prison sentence passed upon him for poaching. On 31 August 2007, Khan was released on bail from the Jodhpur Central jail where he has spent six days.

(Relationship Troubles)

His turbulent relationship with actress Aishwarya Rai was a well publicised topic in the Indian media, and had constantly filled gossip columns. After their break-up in March 2002, Rai accused him of harassing her. She claimed that Khan had not been able to come to terms with their break-up and was hounding her; her parents lodged a complaint against him.

In 2005, news outlets released what was said to be an illicit copy of a mobile phone call recorded in 2001 by the Mumbai police. It appeared to be a call in which he threatened his ex-girlfriend, Aishwarya Rai, in an effort to force her to appear at social events held by Mumbai crime figures. The call featured boasts of connections to organized crime and derogatory comments about other actors. However, the alleged tape was tested in the government's Forensic lab in Chandigarh, which concluded that it was fake.

(Fatwas)

In September 2007, a Muslim organisation issued a fatwa against Khan for attending a Ganesh puja. Stating that Islam prohibits idol worship, the organisation stated that unless Khan reads the kalmas - the declaration of faith, all over again, he will not be considered a Muslim. In addition to that, Khan celebrated the Ganesh Mahostav with his family in Bandra; they brought a Ganesh idol for one day for the sake of his stepmother, Helen. Khan was among the group who danced in the procession. His father responded by criticising the fatwa, and stated that Salman had done nothing wrong.

Another fatwa was raised against Khan by a Muslim cleric in India, mufti Salim Ahmad Qasmi, for allowing Madame Tussauds in London to make a wax model of himself. The mufti said the statue is illegal and the Sharia forbids depictions of all living creatures. This created speculation in the press, as no fatwa was released against fellow Muslim, Shahrukh Khan who also has a wax model in the museum. Salman responded by saying, "These fatwas are becoming a joke".

The fatwa was raised upon Khan again in September 2008, for celebrating the Ganeshotsav Hindu ceremony at his home with the family. The fatwa was raised by the member of the Advisory Council, Jama Masjid, in New Delhi. On this occasion, his father, Salim, again questioned the fatwa and criticised those who raise it.
